The Alibates Flint Quarries were used over 10,000 years ago by mammoth hunters as a source of flint. The flints here are very colorful and unique in the world. The National Monument preserves and honors the history of the quarries. There are exhibits in the Visitor Center and Ranger led tours of the quarries.
