Fort Bowie was involved during nearly 25 years of conflict between the United States Army and Chiricahua Apache. Visitors can hike the old fort ruins and examine the history of the area at the Visitor Center.

Fort Bowie National Historic Site is dog friendly, and dogs are allowed on the trails. Dogs are not allowed in the Visitor Center. Temperatures can change quickly here -- make sure you have plenty of water for your dog and do not leave dogs unattended.

Trail Policy

Dogs are allowed on the 3 mile round-trip trail between the visitor center and the fort ruins. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6'.
