The Niobrara River is a popular destination for recreation, and is a great site for easy kayaking, canoeing, and tubing. There are also a number of trails along the 76 miles of the river. There are also areas with waterfalls on the river.

The Niobrara River is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in boats while on the river, but please do not leash dogs while they're on a boat, in case the boat flips over. Dogs are also allowed on trails.

Trail Policy

Dogs are allowed on the Smith Falls and at Fort Niobrara trails while on a leash no longer than 6'.
