Sunset Crater Volcano Dog Policy

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is Somewhat Dog Friendly

Dogs Limited

The Sunset Crater Volcano erupted in around 1085 and altered the landscape and the people in the area. Today a crater remains, and visitors can take in scenic views, hike, and also view the night sky.

Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is somewhat dog friendly, as you can hike a very short trail and take in some of the scenic views. If you bring a dog, you won't be able to enjoy most of the trails, however. Dogs are allowed at the nearby National Forest.

Trail Policy

Dogs are allowed on the paved section of the Lava Flow Trail while on a leash no longer than 6'. The paved portion of the Lava Flow Trail is approximately .25 miles long. Dogs are not allowed on any other trails.
